Audiovisual Content for the temporary exhibition „Über die Grenze muss man nicht weit.“

The German Emigration Centre recently opened the special exhibition:

“Über die Grenze muss man nicht weit.“ Polnisch-deutsche Geschichten (1871 bis heute)

(‘You don’t have to go far to cross the border’. German-Polish stories from 1871 to the present days).

The neighbourhood between Poland and Germany is loaded with history and has experienced many events that have marked the two countries up to the present day – this history is exemplified in the exhibition on the occasion of Poland’s accession to the EU 20 years ago in 2004, when the border between the two countries became more permeable and fluid than it had been for a long time. Now it is changing and tightening again with the political development of migration and border policy in Europe.

This time I collaborated with the museum by editing the interviews with the protagonists, for whom the complex relationship between Poland and Germany is part of their life or family history.

Much of the material is from the interviews we conducted last year for the documentary ‘Wroclaw/Breslau’. Mostly unused material.

I also made the trailer that can be seen at the entrance of the exhibition on a double screen. And other versions also for the social media.

I have learned a lot by making the documentary and now the audiovisual content of the exhibition.

It is said: ‘You should film what you know’. However, documentary filmmaking is always an exploration in which you can find the familiar in the unknown.

Opening of “Dithmarscher Landesmuseum”

On 27 September the regional museum in Dithmarschen was officially opened.
After making the final adjustments, I packed my bags and we travelled to Hamburg. A couple of days later, I traveled with my colleagues from the Andreas Heller Studio to Meldorf. The inauguration was opened by the authorities of Meldorf and Dithmarschen, and by the project architect Andreas Heller.
It was very exciting to see the finished work after three hard work years. I only worked for 6 months, but I kept an eye on the process during all this time.
15 videos in different formats and lengths can be seen permanently in the exhibition.

I was lucky enough to be able to experiment a bit with the narrative at the beginning of the project, and try out new ways of telling the story of this region. The result was amazing.
I am grateful for the messages and congratulations I received, as well as the good reception in Meldorf.

Exhibition: ANTONIO GADES. Land, Sea and Fire

In March 2022 Ana Berruguete of LA FÁBRICA contacted me, through the Antonio Gades Foundation (FAG), to collaborate with the audiovisuals for an exhibition they were mounting in the exhibition hall of the Centro Cultural de la Villa in Madrid, on the figure of ANTONIO GADES.

Thanks to my long-standing relationship with the FAG, the knowledge and confidence I have with the audiovisual material, and the history of Antonio Gades, the work went smoothly. As always, there was time to experiment and find new forms of audiovisual representation.

After the Exhibition

The exhibition was a success and was very well attended. I visited it several times, as after the opening the FAG commissioned me to make a video documentary about the exhibition.

I was very surprised while working on the exhibition, and later during the filming of the documentary, by the intense and meticulous work carried out by Eugenia Eiriz and María Esteve together with Ana Berruguete. Not forgetting the rest of the women who work at the Foundation: Beatriz Guadix and Julieta Mariño. Stella Arauzo, artistic director of the Company, also contributed a lot with her knowledge. Although after so many years I shouldn’t be surprised… but it has been like that, every day a box of surprises. And I confirm that creativity is a process that can be taken to infinity.
Thank you all for counting on me once again!
